Everything you should know about Asus VG278QR

We are going to take a look at Asus VG278QR today, which is a monitor that is focused on people who are hardcore esports gamers and want a really great esport gaming experience without spending a lot.

The unboxing and setup of this monitor is one of the easiest that I have experienced, I was able to easily finish setting it up for the first time in under 5 minutes, as the monitor comes attached with the stand, and all you have to do is put it on its base and tighten the screw at bottom which you can also do with hand

. I really like the balanced design of this monitor, because it has the gamer elements of the higher end ROG monitors without over killing it and making it look like a 12 year old’s dream come true. At bottom you have DVI, HDMI, and Display ports, an audio in port for in built speakers, an audio out port for audio via HDMI or Display Port, and lastly a Kensington lock so you won’t have to worry about people who REALLY like this monitor. The joystick and button control system at back of the monitor works well, you also find some features to assist you while gaming like having a crosshair on screen and am FPS counter. The ASUS menu system isn't the easiest to navigate through, but you will be able to do what you want to do. The stand offers all kinds of adjustment, so you can adjust its height, you can tilt it, swivel it at upto 90 degrees in either direction, and it also offers pivot, so you can use it in portrait mode. The stand features this cable management passthrough with a cover, and the stand can be removed if you want to use this monitor with another VESA compatible stand. As the name suggests, you have a 27 inch FullHD, TN panel which runs at an impressive 165 Hz, and has a minimum response time of 0.5milliseconds. As this is a TN panel, the colors and contrast aren't amazing, and the viewing angles are also not going to be great, but if you look at it straight on, you’re not going to face any issues. While ASUS doesn’t say that this covers100% sRGB, it is close to it, so if you want to do occasional photo or video editing on it it’s not going to be an issue, but full HD on a 27 inch screen is quite pixelated, so for general desktop use I wouldn’t consider it to be amazing, but the real reason to buy this is of course not the resolution, but its refresh rate, response time, and low input lag. So at 165Hz, you are going to get a significant bump over the general standard of 144Hz refresh rate, and the half millisecond of minimum response time also means that every frame is going to be extremely crisp. So for esport gaming like CS:GO, Rainbow Six Siege, this is really great and the extra frames and response time are going to give you an edge over your competition. ASUS also includes their GameFast Input Technology, and while I have not measured the input lag on this, it is very low, so that is also very important for esports gaming. The monitor also includes in built speakers, and they aren’t very loud, but the quality is decent. You have Free sync available on this monitor, along with G Sync compatibility, which means that if you PC isn't able to deliver consistent165 Hz, you will still get a tear free gaming experience. Make sure that you’re subscribed to the channel with bell because I have really exciting stuff coming up. Asus also included their ELMB technology in this which reduces motion blur by strobing the backlight very fast, and I didn't notice any display artifacts so that's great, and I was able to see a significant difference in the UFO test, but capturing it with camera is very difficult due to backlight strobing.

But one thing you have to keep in mind that you can only have either Adaptive Sync or ELMB enabled at a time on this model, but Asus does have higher end models that support both G sync and ELMB. Now even if you are not a professional esport gamer, if you run a 4ms and this 0.5ms monitor side by side, you will clearly be able to see that the 0.5ms display is less blurry when you have quick movements on the screen. Now for casual gaming this isn’t a big deal, but if you're playing competitively, then you will want to have the best visual experience with all the advantages you can get. So when you’re in fast motion having less blurry frames may make you register what is going on better, so in that case something like this monitor will be great. And that is the conclusion for this video, if you are looking for a monitor for esports gaming specifically, the VG278QR is a great purchase, you will get a competitive edge if you use something like this. But in the price range of around 25,000 Rs.,this monitor faces tough competition, and if gaming is not your primary thing, then you may want to look at a higher resolution panel, and decide how important getting better colors and viewing angles are for you, even if you may have to settle for slightly lower refresh rate and a VA panel with 4ms response time.
